Eastside Elementary’s 5th graders got a hands-on look at real-world rescue skills as part of our ongoing partnership with Park County Search and Rescue and the “Youth Readiness Series.”
During April’s session, students practiced tying essential knots and learned how to safely transport an injured person using a rescue litter. From strapping in a “patient” to carefully lifting and carrying, students worked together just like a real search and rescue team. The excitement was clear—lots of smiles, teamwork, and even a few creative poses while learning!
PCSAR members also demonstrated how their gear is packed and deployed, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at the equipment used in real rescues.

We’re grateful to the PCSAR team for sharing their time and expertise. Public outreach and education are a vital part of their mission, and our students benefited tremendously from this engaging experience.
This authentic learning will carry into the classroom, where students will connect their experience to writing, research, presentations, and even podcasting projects.
Go Eagles!
