January 26, 2026 – Cody, WY – Cody High School science teacher Dean Olenik has been nominated for National Life Group’s 2025-26 LifeChanger of the Year award. National Life Group’s LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence, and leadership.
Olenik was nominated by the superintendent, Vernon Orndorff, for his extraordinary leadership and innovative approach to education. As part of Cody High School’s “POD” Class, Olenik facilitated a transformative learning experience by leading students in a mock “Governor’s Advisory Committee.” By conducting in-depth research and interviews, students deepened their understanding of complex community issues and developed critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.

By collaborating with his colleagues in English, Outdoor Education, and Science, he has created a program that fulfills academic standards and equips students with practical skills.
Olenik’s commitment to producing a nurturing and inspiring atmosphere is evident in how he empowers students to tackle real-world problems while fostering collaboration and diverse perspectives. His ability to create meaningful educational opportunities and dedication to high moral and ethical standards exemplify his role as a leader and mentor.
Olenik consistently demonstrates excellent professional performance, positively shaping the school’s atmosphere and making a lasting difference in the lives of his students. His impact extends far beyond the classroom, as he equips students with the skills and confidence to become active, informed community members.
