CODY, WY — Students at Eastside Elementary in Cody recently stepped into the world of veterinary medicine during an engaging Career Connections visit from Tess, Veterinary Technician at Lifetime Animal Hospital.
Tess began the visit with an interactive whole-group presentation, sharing insights into the veterinary field, including the education, skills, and compassion required to care for animals. Students learned about the daily responsibilities of a veterinary technician, the importance of teamwork in animal hospitals, and the wide range of career opportunities available in veterinary medicine.
Following the presentation, students rotated through four hands-on learning stations designed to simulate real veterinary skills. Stations included practicing CPR techniques on cat and dog models, learning proper blood draw procedures, exploring canine and feline anatomy, and examining tools used in animal care.
The hands-on format allowed students to actively apply what they were learning, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the science and responsibility involved in caring for animals.
“Our goal with Career Connections is to give students meaningful, real-world exposure to a variety of professions,” said Principal Smith. “Experiences like this not only make learning engaging, but they also help students begin to see themselves in future careers.”
Students demonstrated enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the rotations, carefully practicing procedures and exploring anatomical models with guidance from Tess.
“We are incredibly grateful to Tess and Lifetime Animal Hospital for investing their time and expertise in our students,” Principal Smith added. “Partnerships like this strengthen the connection between our school and the community while inspiring the next generation of professionals.”
Career Connections is an ongoing initiative at Eastside Elementary designed to introduce students to diverse career pathways through guest speakers and hands-on learning experiences.
